What idea do you have of God ?

Some people think that God, above all, punishes those who do wrong. So they seek to flee him by all means or to appease his anger by rites and offerings.

In the Bible, God asks the question : "Do I enjoy watching the wicked die ?" The answer is absolutely no. Even if God does not lightly on the evil that is committed day after day on the earth, he will not judge those at fault without having offered them his grace.

God's desire is to forgive and not to judge : he loves us. And he wants to forgive, not because he is tolerant of evil, but because Jesus Christ suffered in our place the punishment our sins deserved.

In the verse quoted, death is not only the end of our life on earth, it is above all the absence of relationship with God in a terrible eternal estrangement from him. On the contrary, God offers us a wonderful personal relationship with him, which physical death itself cannot interrupt. In order for this relationship to be established between God and a man, he must "turn away from his ways", that is to say that he sincerely regrets all the evil he has committed and that he abandons it, believing in Jesus. Yes, God's wish is that you live. Through today's verse he affirms that he has a life plan for you.
