What is the diagnosis ?

Some viruses work by suppressing the body's immune system. It no longer has any protection against attacks from other diseases.

It is in this way that sin has contaminated us morally. Man, since his disobedience to God, has wanted to live without Him. This formidable "virus" which attacks his soul has infected him from birth. No immunity, we are constantly urged to sin. This invisible enemy seeks to be forgotten ; but it is there in each of us, and it carries death within itself. Is there a cure ? The wages of sin, what it deserves, is death (Romans 6:23). Obvious observation: all die on earth.

God offers us a substitute (a replacement) : this death that I deserve, Jesus Christ wanted to undergo in my place, out of love. He alone, who was sinless, holy in his nature, had the quality and the power. So the only effective remedy for me, a sinner, is faith in Jesus, the only mediator between God and men.

To benefit from the prescription, it must be followed. It is simple : you have to believe God, the one who alone is true. To believe is not to repeat a sentence, it is to accept with all your heart as true, humility and happiness, that Jesus died in my place, and that God raised him up to show that he was fully satisfied. "May God be thanked for his incomparable gift !" (2 Corinthians 9. 15).
