What kind of joy ?

Behold your god (the golden calf), who brought you out of the land of Egypt... The people sat down to eat and to drink ; then they got up to amuse themselves. Exodus 32.4, 6

In the opera Faust, it is sung : "The golden calf is still standing", and concerning what follows : "And Satan leads the bal...".

As with the golden calf of the time, we always seek to replace God. The creator has done beautiful things, from our mind and our body, marvels of ingenuity to enjoy life, to adapt, to defend ourselves, to the splendid spectacles of what surrounds us : landscapes, fauna, flora...

But we put God aside. No one to answer to, no more dignity – that which comes from being creatures of such a great God. We must enjoy, have fun : Let's eat and drink because tomorrow we will die (Isaiah 22.13).

Wanting to free oneself from the only true God that the Bible presents goes back to antiquity, to the threshold of humanity. It is sin. Where is the world going after millennia of this spirit of independence ? The news reports the grave dangers that lie in wait, and the sad litany of crimes that take place there. Does Satan run all the bal ?

No ! God has acted, in the end his plans will come true. He gave us Jesus Christ who defeated Satan. He saves, raises hope, and restores the dignity of children of God to those who come to him. Do you want the pseudo fleeting joy of a bal without God, or the real, eternal joy coming from his love ?
