What look good to me

Everyone did what they saw fit. Judges 17.6

When my son was a young child doing something forbidden, I would ask him : "Why are you doing this ?" He would answer me naively : "Because I want to." That was more than enough reason for him to continue his activity.

Today, many of our contemporaries live or would like to live without any other criterion of choice than their desires or desires. In Israel, at times, everyone did what they saw fit. Each one lived according to the inclinations of his heart, according to what seemed good to him but which was not necessarily it. What seems good and beneficial to some is not automatically good to others.

It is very dangerous that our criterion of choice is only defined by what pleases us. This way of life would pose no problem if our desires were always laudable and in every way in accordance with the will of God. Unfortunately the finding is different. Already in the days of Noah, the Lord saw that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that every day the thoughts of their hearts turned towards evil. (Genesis 6.5) And much later, God warns his people : Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil. (Isaiah 5:20)

Let us recognize that living according to the inclinations of our heart leads us to ruin and eternal death, but that seeking God is the beginning of wisdom.
