What my dad did that night...

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and they are freely declared righteous by his grace, by means of the liberation which is found in Christ Jesus. Romans 3:23-24

I read the story of a little boy who was constantly late when he came home from school. One day his parents warned him that he had to be home on time... Yet he arrived later than usual. At dinner that night, the boy looked at his plate. There was a slice of bread and a glass of water. He looked at his father's full plate, then he looked at his father, but he was silent. The boy was devastated.

The father waited for the child to realize the consequences of his fault, then he quietly took the boy's plate and placed it in front of him. Then he took his own plate filled with meat and potatoes and placed it in front of the child, smiling at him. This boy is growing up to be a man. Today he says : "What my father did that night made me realize what God is like."

"Jesus loved you so much that he bore all your sins !"

This story is a beautiful illustration of "redemption". This word comes from the Greek "apolutrosis" which means "a release effected following the payment of a ransom". In our story, the father pays the price by depriving himself of his delicious meal, to give it to his son.

Likewise, because of our repeated disobedience, Jesus pays the price by depriving himself of his glory, to give it to us by taking upon himself our misery and our sin (Romans 3:23-24).

Jesus loved you so much that he bore all your sins! And in return, you have the assurance of his forgiveness and blessing.

An action for today

I decide to share this grace around me and forgive others just as God has forgiven me.
