For you, however, the blood will serve as a sign on the houses where you are : I will see the blood and I will pass over you. There will be no plague that destroys you when I strike Egypt. Exodus 12. 13
The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1.7
What sign for you ?
When the soldiers of this group of fanatics entered Mosul (Iraq), they marked the homes of Christians with the letter "noun" (the "n" in our alphabet). They thus designated the "Nazarenes" (disciples of Jesus of Nazareth), whom they then wanted to massacre. In these houses, everyone knew that their convictions were clearly displayed on the walls of the house that was supposed to protect them. They knew that if they didn't run away, they would die.
The dispositions of the Israelites, of which the biblical account quoted above, speaks to us, were quite different. While the inhabitants of Egypt were condemned to a terrible plague, they were invited to mark their doors with the blood of a lamb, to be spared. They killed an animal, marked their doors with its blood... and were spared ! You didn't have to be smarter or more holy for that ; it just needed faith, active faith : believe and act accordingly !
Today the Bible tells us that each of us will someday be accountable to God. It also tells us that Jesus Christ offered himself as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). He was punished in our place for all the trespasses we have done against God. You have to believe it with all your heart to be safe from God's judgment.
In Mosul the sign on the houses sentenced to death. Today, anyone who believes in the work of Jesus Christ is saved from eternal estrangement from God.
