What would you leave behind ?

“The good man leaves an inheritance to the children of his children.” Proverbs 13:22

The present life is an investment for the future. Believing that you can enjoy everything you can buy today, while having everything you want at the end of your life, is almost always a delusion! Solomon said : “Go to the ant, lazy, Observe its behavior and become wise : it has no leader, nor inspector, nor superior ; in summer she prepares her food, in harvest she collects something to eat. Lazy, how long will you stay in bed ? When will you wake up from your sleep ? Can you doze off a bit, rest some more, just fold your hands to sleep ? Behold, poverty surprises you like a prowler, and misery like an armed man” (Proverbs 6.6-11). Strong words ! If you don't make the right decisions today, you will find yourself, when the winter of your life arrives, depressed and resentful, cursing a wasted youth, doomed to spend the rest of your days in need. The ants store everything. Birds make nests. All of creation is ceaselessly preparing, refusing the fleeting gratification of the present in the hope of a better future. So follow his example ! The same life can be filled with material prosperity as well as spiritual piety. Perhaps the two should go hand in hand in the life of a Christian, for the most beautiful spiritual visions die for lack of funding ! Compare these two verses : “And those whom I have chosen will enjoy the fruit of their labor” (Isaiah 65:22) and “The good man leaves an inheritance to the children of his children.” (Proverbs 13. 22). Make the most of every moment of your present, but be sure to invest in your future. If you are mostly practical, work on increasing your piety. If you are very godly and spiritual, work on increasing your practicality. One should complement the other. If you ask God to add days to your life, especially pray to Him to add life to your days. Strive to leave a legacy that will bless those you leave behind and thus be fond memories of you for your children and grandchildren.
