When I can't anymore he can still
The rule of the Midianites was powerful against Israel. To escape them, the Israelites retreated into mountain ravines, caves, and fortified rocks. (…) Then the angel of the Lord came and sat down under the terebinth of Ophra, which belonged to Joash, of the family of Abiezer. His son Gideon threshed wheat in the press to protect it from the Midianites. The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said unto him : The LORD is with you, mighty hero ! Judges 6.2-12
How I love this passage from the Bible ! We see a man coming out of 7 years of wars, pressures and oppressions, to whom God will announce : it is the hour of the fight !
One would have thought that after 7 such intense years, the divine solution would have been : "take a vacation", "rest"… yet no. Faced with a man at the end of his possibilities, it seems that God is adding more, that he does not understand Gideon's exhaustion.
Sometimes our lives are like this story. The months, the years are hard, good news is scarce. We're just struggling to stay afloat, just trying to hold on. And as we lay our eyes on the Bible, or take time with God, it seems the Lord doesn't understand us, always asks more of us, his requests are unrealistic, and out of reach. .
"His demands are not unrealistic, they are supernatural !"
Yet it is there, when we are at the end, that we can discover the God who fights for us. When it seems to us that we are lacking in strength, that we can have access to "his strength which works mightily in us" (Colossians 1:29).
Dear friends, God knows exactly what we need. His demands are not unrealistic, they are supernatural ! When we are on the ground, it is an opportunity to surrender ourselves so that his resurrection power reveals the "valiant hero" within us.
An action for today
Today, let us choose to surrender in his hands, to confess that divine reality surpasses what our eyes see, and that we regard the divine plan as best for us !
