When it's time to go...

“Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11.1

When your enthusiasm for some endeavor faded, the grace that helped you accomplish it probably faded as well. Perhaps you think you have served your Master too long in one place. Does this mean that you have to abandon the work in which you had invested so much ? Here are some thoughts :

1- Before making any decision isolate yourself, spend more time in the company of the Lord and rest. Stressed minds are rarely capable of sound decisions. Remember that He has already decided your future (Isaiah 46:10). God does not work with ready-made structures into which He fits the life and work of His servants. He works exclusively with personalized plans for each of us.

2- You are not the only person concerned. If you don't know or don't want to pass the baton to someone else, you will lose and everyone will lose. Once you have killed “your giant”, know how to let others kill theirs. The apostle Paul rarely stayed long in the same city. He entrusted others with the task of continuing his work after his departure.

3- Don't just look at what you leave behind. Think about what you take with you : the pleasure of accomplishment, the wisdom acquired, the increased faith to face the challenges of the future, the joy of having obeyed the divine will. “I have revealed your glory on earth, I have finished what you gave me to do” (John 17.4). Faith is a “substance” that you can take with you. It will grow in any climate, and move any mountain. It is the voice within you that still whispers : “I long to see what God is going to do with my life next.” Philippe could have said the same thing. He only had a brief meeting with the Ethiopian, but with what a result ! The choice to leave the latter was not even left to him, since the Spirit suddenly took him about thirty kilometers away ! What matters is that you follow your vision, for it was conceived in Him, developed through Him, and will be fulfilled in its time.
