When the fog rises

Searching the Scriptures

If anyone walks in the dark and lacks light, let him trust in the name of the Lord and lean on his God ! Isaiah 50.10

During a trip to Peru, with my family we decided to take an excursion to Machu Picchu, one of the "7 wonders of the world" ! We got up very early to go to these famous places. But once there, we found ourselves in a very thick fog. We could only guess vaguely the outline of the mountains. Frustration mounted as the hours passed. When, suddenly, the fog dissipated like a rising veil, and a grandiose landscape appeared to us in all its splendor.

There are times in the Christian life when we feel like we are walking blind. We don't see where God wants to take us. We don't understand his plans for our life. We don't hear him talking to us anymore. We are frustrated. We are impatient. But today's verse encourages us to persevere in our trust in the Lord and to rely on him. Because the fog will certainly lift, in successive stages. One day, before our amazed eyes, all the elements of our experience, sad or joyful, will take on meaning and come together like puzzle pieces to form a magnificent painting.

This is what Joseph experienced. Before seeing the visions he had received for his future come true, it was a long and painful journey. He too had to live through times of questioning : "God, where are you, what are you doing ?" Then one day it all made sense. He said to his brethren : "Do not worry and be angry with yourselves for selling me to be brought here, for it is to save your life that God sent me here before. you." (Genesis 45.5)

Think again of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, of the Eleven in Jerusalem or of Mary Magdalene before the empty tomb : they were all immersed in their sadness and did not discern that the risen Master was at their side until their eyes and their intelligence open. So their hearts jumped for joy.

Listen the voice of God

Let's take the time to listen to what God means. Are you currently in a thick fog, put your trust in God as he leads you one step at a time.

Praying is simple. Talk to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Lord, sometimes I feel lost ; I can't see you anymore, I can't hear you anymore. But, even though I walk in the dark, I want to continue to trust you, me. lean on you and I praise you in advance for those times when the fog will lift."

Praise God

To praise God is to show him our gratitude. Today, what are your subjects of recognition ? Take a moment to thank the Lord.

Act today

Now dig deeper into what you have received. What can you do to apply what God has told you ? Write down the concrete actions you can take.

Honor the Lord

Our route for the day comes to an end. Let us pray together to honor our God.

"Thank you Lord for you assure me of your constant presence by my side. I am not alone on the path of life. Yours be the reign, the power and the glory, amen !"
