When your cross is too heavy

"Whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." Matthew 10.38

The Lord invites you to carry your cross and follow it. Like any good disciple you wish to obey him. However, your march is more and more unbearable, sometimes you crumble under the harassing weight of this cross. You are exhausted to wait for the soul mate, your celibacy overwhelms you and you do not understand this ordeal. Your unemployment has become an unsustainable burden, the bills are accumulating. Your secret sin throws you to the ground and you are unable to stand up. One day a person told you that you were about to get out of your dark tunnel but everything remains dark. Time passes and the divine promise is delayed, you wait for it but nothing happens. Will it ever be accomplished ? So many questions, misunderstandings and overwhelming hardships.

Jesus himself, on the road to Golgotha, needed help.

Few people see it but today you are down, the cross is no longer on your shoulder but on you like a tombstone. Why ? The purpose is to bring you to the end of your human capacities so that you can understand that the power of God can only be accomplished in your weakness. The temptation resides in picking up your cross and continuing your journey relying solely on your strength. Confess to the Lord that you can not do this and ask for his help.

Jesus himself, on the road to Golgotha, needed help. After a night of insults, blows, spitting, false trials, he was scourged by the Romans. When the cross was placed on his shoulder, the Romans asked a certain Simon of Cyrene to help Jesus. Finally, it was Simon who bore the cross of Jesus.

Therefore, Jesus understands you when you can no longer. He does not despise you, call him. He wants to help you, as he himself was supported by Simon on his way to suffering. Ask him for his help, he will take your cross and give you his gentle and light yoke. As Solomon said : "Two are better than one ... For if they fall, one will lift up his companion." Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10

A prayer for today

Lord, my cross has become too heavy, help me, take my yoke and give me yours because I can not do it anymore. Get me up, amen.
