Where is our treasure ?

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy and where thieves break through walls to steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy and where thieves cannot pierce walls or fly ! Matthew 6.19-20

In his first letter to Timothy, the apostle Paul denounces the love of money as the source of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10).

He warns not only against the love of sonorous, stumbling or stackable money - in other words, against greed or greed - but also against the love of what he calls goods of the present century or uncertain riches (1 Timothy 6:17). In other words, all that money provides.

I do not hesitate to add to it immeasurable wealth such as consideration, honors, notoriety, awards or titles for which we sometimes go so far as to sacrifice our family, even our honor - because honors are far from him always be compatible.

All this the present age can provide, but it does not show the real price, nor the eternal consequences.

Now, God created us free to choose what goods we want to be rich in. In fact, it is an alternative, because there are only two options : the intoxicating but fleeting riches present, or the spiritual riches, just as demanding, often more, but discreet and eternal.

What kind of treasure have we chosen ? To which do we give our capacity for passion and perseverance ?

Be careful, there is no compromise, it's earth or sky.

Richard Douliere
