Who dared touch Jesus ?

"Who touched me ?" Mark 5.31

The background to this story is simple. A woman has suffered a loss of blood for twelve years. Because of his illness, the law prohibits him from living among his fellow men. Despite this, she will take the initiative to go to meet Jesus while crossing a human tide.

Jesus makes fun of taboos !

And while she is close to Jesus, she manages to stretch out her hand to touch the edge of her garment. Her hemorrhage stops, she is cured. When the Lord asks, "Who touched me ?", This woman is seized with fear. She who wanted to remain incognito suddenly finds herself in the limelight. But why is she afraid ?

Normally, this woman should have stayed away from her contemporaries. By her gesture, she will overturn the walls of a taboo, that of blood. By her attitude, she defies the prohibitions laid down by the law of Moses. She had no right to rub shoulders with the crowd but she will. Worse, she will even dare to touch a teacher of the law ... a man who is there to remind people what is forbidden, which is unclean! This woman will cross all obstacles to seize the miracle.

Put yourself in the place of the people who see this scene. This woman has committed a sacrilege, an unthinkable act and yet this story is promising and full of hope !

Jesus makes fun of taboos ! For him, even twelve unclean people have the right to deliverance. The action of Jesus goes beyond the healing of a mere person. The miracle will spread to the multitude. This event is proof that a new era has finally arrived. It is not only a healing that took place but a salvation, an emancipation of custom, tradition and habit.

Whatever your condition, I invite you to touch Jesus. You say : "But I am unclean ... I have committed all sorts of sins ... I am not worthy ... Even the people around me know how bad I am ... The law condemns me ... Moral condemns me ..." This may be true, but do not forget this : "For Jesus, even twelve unclean people have the right to deliverance."

Today, seize his forgiveness, go and sin no more !

A prayer for today

Lord, I come before you with all my impurities, with all the prohibitions I have defied, and I ask for your forgiveness. Heal me and purify me as you did for this woman. Amen.
