Who is Jesus Christ ?

Nathanael said to him : Can anything good come from Nazareth ? Philip said to him : Come and see." John 1.46

Come and see ! During a train trip, two atheists spoke about the life of Jesus. One of the two told the other that it would be interesting to write a story that would strip Jesus of any particle of divinity and describe him as a mere man, what he was for them. The man who had given the idea of this novel was Colonel Ingersoll, one of the best known atheists, and the other atheist who wrote the novel was General Lewis Wallace. His work was the famous novel "Ben Hur".

Be attentive to the way Jesus is presented to you.

What happened was that the more the author collected the information and studied the documents about Jesus, the more he came to the conclusion that Jesus was divine. At the end, after writing his novel he made this statement about Jesus : "Certainly this man was the Son of God." Wallace became a Christian!

The person of Christ has never been unanimous. He has always had detractors who have refused to recognize his nature, both divine and human. Others have tried to deny his miracles and to lower him to the rank of a skilful manipulator. His message has been altered by hateful or mocking commentators.

All those who are at the origin of pernicious sects, as the apostle Peter says, have participated in this distortion of the message and the person of Jesus Christ.

For some he is but a simple man who, thanks to his merits, has risen to the rank of god, among thousands of other gods.

For the others he is but a mere prophet, and other prophets who have come after him are more to be considered than he himself.

Finally, the list is long of all the alterations which have been made upon him. Angel or demon, holy or impure, prophet or impostor, his supernatural conception, his redeeming death, having taken place once for all and for all men, his resurrection, his ascension, all his attributes and his divinity are altered not only By atheists, but also by those who are at the origin of the pernicious sects.

Do you want to protect yourself from pernicious sects ? Be attentive to the way Jesus is presented to you. If his divinity is diminished, if his atoning sacrifice is reduced to a mere appearance, if he is not recognized as the sole mediator between God and man, if his attributes of the Eternal Father, Prince of Peace, mighty God 9.5), are not recognized, so step back.

Advice for today

"Get close to him ..." (1 Peter 2: 10) and you will know who he is.
