Who pays ?

The free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

First of all I would say that it is obvious to say that the gift of God is free. A donation is always free, otherwise it is no longer a donation. We also know very well that to speak of donation implies that there is a donor. When something is given to you for free, someone has already paid the price for you. Here it is clearly expressed that it is God himself who has paid the price of eternal life for all of us. He did this by sacrificing his son Jesus Christ on the cross at Golgotha. God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself (2 Corinthians 5:19).

The fact that eternal life is a gift may seem suspicious to us: when advertisements give us free items, that triggers a certain suspicion in us, doesn't it ? What is behind this free ? Is the article valid, is there a hidden defect ? If it's by mail, aren't we going to be "tricked" into giving out our contact details? We always tend to want to offer a counterpart. Yet it is simple : a donation is accepted or refused. For it is by grace that you have been saved, by means of faith. And it is not from you, it is the gift of God. It is not by works so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). What will be your attitude towards salvation, the wonderful gift of God ?
