Why are you afraid ?

“Why are you so afraid ? How is it that you have no faith ?" Mark 4.40

Jesus never promised us an easy life without storms, but He did promise us to always be by our side. Faithful to His promise He was therefore in a boat with His disciples on a certain crossing day: “Jesus said to them : 'Let us cross to the other bank...' There arose a great whirlwind of wind. The waves threw themselves on the boat, to the point that the boat was already filling up. And He… was sleeping. They awoke Him and said to Him : “Master, do you not mind that we should perish ?” Awakened, He threatened the wind and said to the sea : “Silence ! Shut up !” The wind died down, and there was a great deal of calm. Jesus said to them : ‘Why are you so afraid ? Do you not yet have faith ?' They were seized with great fear, and they said to each other : "Who is He, that even the wind and the sea may obey Him ? " Why did Jesus fall asleep during this hectic journey ? No doubt... because He was tired ! He had just lived through very trying hours with the presence of crowds, the questions of the Pharisees, the teaching of His disciples... etc. No wonder He felt tired. Notice two details :

1- He is the one who commands the disciples to cross the Sea of ​​Galilee. Let us trust Him when He tells us to do something. He knows about the brewing storm. He will not throw us into the heart of a thunderstorm by slipping away and leaving us alone to struggle with the high waves and the wind.

2- Jesus allowed the storm to rise, knowing that He could handle the problem when the time was right. Often God intervenes at the last moment, when we cry out to Him to save us. Why then be afraid ? Faith is the antidote to fear !
