You say : Son of man, return ! Psalm 90.3
Will we forget that we are mortal ?
In this very special spring of 2021, recent news suddenly reminds us of our fragility. A violent car accident kills three people in Auvergne, a prohibited swimming turns to drowning on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, cancer is clearly detected in one of our neighbors...
Man knows that his earthly pilgrimage will one day come to an end. Is he preparing for his eternal destiny ? Or does he convince himself that everything ends at the grave ? Opinions vary, but sincere consciences cannot evade or stifle the subject.
The radical rupture of the initial harmony between the human being and his creator is called the fall. The perfect and sure recovery is called “redemption”. God has done what is necessary to effect this restoration ; to receive it by faith is entirely mine. All men are deprived of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) by their rebellious nature. It is by faith alone in Jesus Christ that we will find what was lost. Then, even if we must “return to dust,” our eternal salvation will be assured. God promised it, and he is faithful !
