Wipe off
I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud, your sins like the mist. Come back to me, for I have redeemed you. Isaiah 44.22
I often use a small eraser in two colors: the red side to erase the pencil, the blue side to erase the ink. These two colors in the Bible remind me of how God erases our transgressions and our sins: red, the image of the blood of Jesus shed on the cross which cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1.7). Blue, an image of the love of God who loved us so much that he gave his only begotten Son to die in our place on the cross. If we believe in him, we receive his salvation and eternal life (John 3:16).
There is a twofold condition for the promise of forgiveness and deliverance from our sins :
- return to God who redeemed us, walking in his light which enlightens us and shows us our faults ;
- confess our sins to him (1 John 1:7 and 9).
Prayer : Praise God, for he has made us alive with Christ, being gracious to us for all our trespasses. He blotted out the act (the Mosaic law) whose ordinances condemned us and which stood against us, and destroyed it by nailing it to the cross (Colossians 2:13-14).
