With us every day

"I am with you every day until the end of the century." Matthew 28. 20

The words above are among the last ones Jesus uttered before leaving the earth for heaven. They are addressed to his disciples who followed him for a few years and will now find themselves alone ; Jesus wishes to encourage them with simple but strong words. This promise once made to his disciples is also meant for all those who, even today, have accepted him as their Savior and want to follow him as their master.

Christians react in various ways to this constant presence of Jesus with them : some recognize it as a "truth" but ignore it in their daily lives. Others, perhaps hurt or deeply embarrassed by unconfessed sin, are not comfortable with the idea that Jesus is very close to them and knows everything They do, say or think. Others have learned to rely on this glorious and encouraging promise ; They have experienced this presence at their side and feel blessed beyond expectation.

To Jacob, who fled before his brother's just wrath, God said : "I am with you" (Gen. 28: 15). To Gideon, who beat corn to keep him safe before the Madianites plundered, God also said : "I am with you" (Jn 6:12). To the young Jeremiah who thought himself incapable of becoming a prophet to the nations, God again said : "I am with you" (Jer.1: 8). God has accompanied Jacob, Gideon, Jeremiah and many others, he has not failed to any one, he wishes to accompany each of his own even today.

Let each believer put his Savior's presence at the center of his life, then all the pieces of the puzzle of his existence will put themselves in their right place. May his eyes be fixed on him, and he will see the world around him as his Savior sees him. The fact of feeling one's presence makes each moment a unique and meaningful moment.

Lord, give me to seek you every day, to find you, and then to feel, not after time, your beneficent presence on my side, and this to the end of my journey !
