Without weapons for combat ?

Take in all circumstances the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all flaming arrows of evil ; also welcome the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, that is, the word of God. Make all kinds of prayers and supplications in the Spirit at all times. Ephesians 6:16-18

But we who are of the day, let us be sober, put on the breastplate of faith and love and have the hope of salvation as our helmet. 1 Thessalonians 5.8

Without weapons for combat ?

The 2020 pandemic has shown our dependence on others for many essential products to fight against the spread of the virus : treatments, respirators, masks...

This situation recalls that of the Israelites (1 Samuel 13.19-22) : there was no longer a blacksmith in the country, and they depended on the neighboring people to sharpen their working tools! They no longer even had a sword to prevent their enemies from stealing the crops.

Christians today must fight relentlessly. Everyone's struggle does not take place on the material level with weapons, but on the moral and spiritual level, in relation to our soul. Our spiritual nourishment and our choices depend on it, as do our conduct in the world. "Be blameless and pure, blameless children of God in the midst of a perverse and corrupt generation, among whom you shine like torches in the world" (Philippians 2:15). This is the essence of our fight.

What are our weapons ? Two major weapons: putting into practice the Word of God and persevering in prayer. Why is it sometimes defeat ? Because our weapons are not ready, not at hand. Let us think about it : the world, work, leisure, the hours spent on our screens, have they not monopolized our time and our energy ? So let's put into practice the exhortations of the above verses. Let us seek the presence of the Lord and let us find, on our knees, the secret of spiritual strength, to be "more than conquerors through him who loved us" (Romans 8:37).
