(God) called you from darkness to his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2. 9

I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with all my heart I will relate all your wonderful works. Psalm 9. 2

Wonders (2)

The optic nerve, which runs from the eye to the brain, is only 4mm in diameter, but it contains over a million nerve fibers, all isolated from each other. Even in our age of high-tech communication, telecommunications engineers dream of a fiber optic cable that would perform the same.

King David perceiving the extraordinary complexity of the human body, could praise God : "I praise you that I am a marvelous creature. Your works are admirable, and I recognize it well... Woven in the depths of the earth... And on your book were written all the days which were intended for me before one of them existed" (Psalm 139.14-16). God knows us even before we are conceived. Man created in the image of God is one of his wonders. But this resemblance has been tarnished by the evil introduced by man. Its capacity for violence, destruction and self-destruction is frightening.

Yet God wants to create in each of us a different moral nature, as by a new birth : "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. The old things have passed away ; behold, all things have become new. it comes from God who has reconciled us to him through Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:17,18). This moral nature was embodied and marvelously seen in Jesus, the Son of God who came to earth. And we receive it when we just believe in him.
