Wonders (3)

Sunday July 18, 2021

Why are you asking for my name ? He is marvelous... Something marvelous happened, while Manoach and his wife watched : as the flame rose from the altar, the angel of the Lord ascended into that flame. Judges 13. 18-20

Wonders (3)

In today's verse, Manoach and his wife saw such wonderful things that they bowed down in worship before God. It reminds us of even more wonderful facts that we are invited to contemplate. Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth, died on the cross, and ascended to heaven, rose from the dead. Isn't it wonderful to realize that God loved his creature so much that he himself came to "put on our humanity" ? Undoubtedly, the mystery of godliness is great : God was manifested in the flesh, was justified in the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed in the world, was lifted up in glory " (1 Timothy 3:16).

Let us consider this path followed by Jesus : he came to take care of men and women who were far from God out of love. When he was born, Jesus received such beautiful names : Jesus (which means God the Savior) and Emmanuel (God with us). These names make us understand God's desire to live with us, but also the need to have a Savior to bring us into his presence. It would be impossible to have God with us if we were not delivered from our sins by faith in him. The life of Jesus offered on the cross responded to the righteousness of God. His resurrection demonstrates the satisfaction of God. Psalm 111 tells us that "the works of the Lord are great" (the creation of the universe, of the human body...), but also that "his work is glorious and magnificent" (the work of the cross). "He left behind the memory of his wonders" (v. 2-4).
