Work for God, or God for us ?

There are many who work for God, while God wants to work for them. He does not want us to work to the point of falling dead for him. I saw, one day, a tombstone bearing the name of a man with an epitaph. I read this : "He only lived for work," and thought, it's an epitaph for a horse, not for a human being. God never wanted us to be beasts of burden, or to work like robots. If he had wanted that, he would have created loads of horses in abundance. But when the Lord thought of you and me, he had other things in mind than slaves. Our Father wanted sons and daughters with whom he could be in communion and feast, sharing all his goods with them. "All that I have is yours" (Luke 15:31).

It is time to change the negative image of the Christian life. Do you think that becoming a Christian simply broke and crushed you ? You never feel good about yourself. You think there is never enough prayer, work, love, or Bible study in your life. Homework is pressing you. But you should be brought by the Spirit into the glorious river of God. There are waters in which one swims. In him, you are more than a winner.

We are like Joseph, who was pulled from prison to rule. This is the principle of God's action throughout Scripture. We must not endure or support our Christian life, but rather enjoy it. I do not want to get to heaven and find out that I managed 5% of what God wanted me to have. There is no virtue in this. The remaining 95% interest me. When we come to the blessings of God, some people are as humble as peacocks with their false modesty. We need to understand the thought and the call of God. Just as he led Ezekiel from the minimum to the maximum, so will he lead us if we allow him.
