Worker or instrument ?

"The harvest is great, but there are few workers." Matthew 9. 37

Are you a simple instrument in the hand of the Master or his worker ? A tool has no will, it is manipulated by the one who directs it, as the chisel follows the hand of the carpenter. In this the believer is an instrument in the hand of God, but it is not only that. The believer is a true worker whom God trains for the service he entrusts to him.

The worker of God loves his job. He accomplishes his task with the efficiency that the practice has acquired for him. He exercises his service with the sensitivity and spiritual intelligence that God has given him. He uses his experience and uses his common sense: "God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of sober common sense" (2 Tim.1.7). If it were only a tool, the believer would not need faith, intelligence, or common sense to serve the Lord.

When we understand that we are more than mere tools, that is, workers engaged by the Lord in his service, life takes on another dimension and serving becomes a privilege. From passive instruments, we become people who participate in the work of God with joy and enthusiasm, under the direction of the Lord. There will be problems to solve, difficulties to overcome. But just as the sense of responsibility leads an employee to act in accordance with what his boss asks, so does the worker of the Lord seek to know his Master's will in all circumstances and apply it to it. The Lord gives him the energy and spiritual intelligence necessary for that. And with such a master, suffering is better supported in difficult times.

Paul encourages the Corinthians in their service : "Be steadfast, steadfast, always abounding in the Lord's work, knowing that your work is not in vain in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:58).

The Lord does us the honor of associating us with his work. Even if we do not immediately see the results of our work, the Lord uses what we do for him and makes it fruitful, never doubt it !
