Worship
“These are the worshipers that the Father is looking for.” John 4. 23
It was to a woman with a dubious past, with five disastrous marriages behind her, and then living in cohabitation with a sixth companion, that Jesus revealed what true worship was. No wonder His disciples were shocked and horrified to see Him in conversation with such a woman ! (John 4:27). And what did Jesus teach him about how to worship the Father ?
1- That anyone can. True worship has nothing to do with belonging to a religious group (Jews or non-Jews), nor to a specific place (Temple or Mount Gerizim). Once you recognize Him as Master and Lord of your life, Jesus accepts to receive your worship. You are part of the group of His worshipers.
2- That God is looking for people ready to worship Him. An almost unbelievable idea : God created you to accomplish the one thing He cannot do Himself : worship Him ! “You are worthy, our Lord and our God, you the Holy One, to receive the glory, the honor and the power, for you created all things and it is by your will that they were created and that they exist.” (Revelation 4:11).
3- That there is not one valid way to worship Him. If Vine's commentary on the Scriptures is to be believed : “The Bible contains no definition or explanation of worshiping God !” Such a powerful expression of a heart overflowing with gratitude, devotion and love to the Lord cannot be defined in words, nor explained by song, cry, or silence. Jesus said : “True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23). Pure and true worship comes from the back of your mind and is grounded in the truth of the Word of God. To understand what worship is, think about how much you value your relationship with God. Usually we never get tired of talking about what we consider most important !
