Worship day after day

"And he set before the ark of the LORD those of the Levites, whose service was to call upon, to praise, and to praise the LORD God of Israel ... Asaph sounded the cymbals, and the priests Benayahu and Yahaziel were continually sounding trumpets before the ark of God's covenant." 1 Chronicles 16: 4-6

God wanted his people to live in permanent worship.

To praise God is to recognize that he perfectly masters the circumstances of your life.

Israel had enjoyed a time of great national rejoicing. The transport of the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem had given rise to a loud celebration. The people danced and sang as the priests played on "musical instruments, lutes, harps and cymbals" to "sound bright sounds as a sign of rejoicing".

But David made sure that this manifestation of joy did not remain a punctual event. He entrusted some Levites with the responsibility of continually recalling the importance of praise. They had to devote their lives to invoking, celebrating and praising the Lord. They were in charge of "sounding cymbals", of "continually sounding trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God". And to nourish their praise, David gave them a psalm of thanksgiving.

That's what God wants for our lives. He knows how easily the worries of this world can dominate our hearts and minds. But he does not want us to be depressed or anxious. Frightened or worried. On the contrary, he wants our hearts to be filled with praise and adoration. Instead of thinking about our problems, we must fix our eyes on him. To be grateful. Sing praises to his name and proclaim his wonders. Do not be intimidated by what others might say, but enter into praise through song and instruments. With joy. Loudly.

May today be for you a day of praise and worship. Spend time before the Lord. And place praise and worship in the center of your life. Whatever happens in the world, celebrate "continually".

A prayer for today

Father, I praise you and I adore you ! I give you thanks ! I make my praises go up to you! I want to proclaim your wonders around me. Thank you because you fill my heart with joy. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
