Yet, I would trust God

The author of the book of Hebrews tells us : "For we do not have a high priest who can not sympathize with our weaknesses ; on the contrary, he was tempted like us in all things, without committing sin" (Hebrews 4:15).

Many Christians know this verse. He tells us that our high priest, Jesus, feels in the same way as all our sufferings. He is personally touched by each of our troubles, by the confusion and despair that strike us. Because we have such a high priest, we are ordained : "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, to obtain mercy and to find grace, to be helped in our needs" (4:16). We are told, "Our Savior knows exactly what you are going through, and He knows exactly how to grant you His grace." When we are in dire need, how can we find the grace that this verse from the book of Hebrews speaks ?

When the ordeal strikes, you have a choice to make: trust God or blame Him. When Job and his wife experienced the tragic loss of their family and the disaster that hit his physical condition, they chose two completely different reactions. His wife became bitter and foolishly accused God, even urging her husband to curse God and die (see Job 2: 9).

Job too was deeply moved by grief and suffered a lot physically, yet he trusted God in the middle of it all. He said : "I do not understand what is happening to me, but" behold, let him kill me, I will hope in him" (Job 13:15 Darby version)" Job said, actually : "It does not matter if these ulcers lead me to the grave. I will leave with confidence in God and I will never give up the certainty that He knows what He is doing. He has an eternal plan and I will trust Him until my last breath."

What a great confidence in Job's heart! And the wonderful truth is that this same trust in our loving Father can be ours if we place our trust in Him.
