You can defeat your giant !

“Victory belongs to the Lord, and he delivers you into our hand.” 1 Samuel 17:47

One day a soldier accused of having fled from the enemy was brought before Alexander the Great. Alexander asked him : "What is your name ?" With his head bowed, the soldier replied : “Alexander.” The king took him by the shoulders and shook him, shouting : “Soldier, you must change your attitude or change your name !” And you, you have been called to live a life that honors the person whose name you now bear ! Whichever “giant” you face, drug or alcohol addiction, bitterness, fear, pride, carnal attraction, lust or anger, you need to understand :

1- that you are not the only one struggling. The temptations that assail you “are no different from any that other human beings feel...” (1 Corinthians 10. 13 TP). Goliath was not born a giant : his parents fed and cared for him, and he gradually grew up to be one. Our “giants” grew from “venial sins” that we ignored and “nurtured” until one day they took hold of us and began to invade our lives.

2- that you can't get by on your own ! Your “giant” will dominate you whenever you try to confront him with your own strength. David said to Goliath : “The victory belongs to the Lord, and he has delivered you into our hand” (1 Samuel 17. 47). You need divine help to overcome your bad habits. Affirm like Paul : “I can do anything through him who strengthens me, Christ” (Philippians 4:13).

3- that you must face your "giant" head-on and without procrastinating. The Bible tells us : “David ran to the field of battle to meet him” (1 Samuel 17. 48). Don’t run away, don’t try to compromise, refuse any negotiation, force your giant out of the shadows and don’t let him back into your life. Establish barriers between him and you. Learn to account for your conduct in front of someone trustworthy and loyal. Avoid bad company. And above all, never evaluate the divine strength according to that of your giant, but always the strength of your giant, according to that of God !
