Your faith increases a lot ! (2)

"We must always give thanks to God for you, brethren - as it is right - because your faith increases greatly ..." 2 Thessalonians 1. 3

Paul mentions it in his first letter to the Thessalonians : their faith had been tested by harsh persecutions. He had then sent Timothy to encourage them, he was eager to go and see them himself (1 Thess, 3, 5, 10).

The apostle rejoices and thanks God : their faith increases greatly. How is it possible to progress in this way ? Paul indicates different tracks in his letters.

- A sincere and active desire

"For you, man of God, flee these things (the love of money and its consequences), and pursue justice, piety, faith, love, patience, sweetness of mind" (1 Tim 6:11).

- The Word of God

"Faith comes from what we hear - and what is meant by the word of God" (Rom 10: 17).

Faith feeds on the Word of God : hence the importance of reading it, studying it, memorizing it.

- Pure awareness and sincerity

"The purpose of this injunction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith" (1 Tim.

"... keeping faith and good conscience. Some who rejected it were shipwrecked in faith" (1 Tim.1: 19).

Refusing hypocrisy, maintaining a clear distinction between good and evil: it is essential for faith to grow.

- Perform the service God has entrusted

"Those who have served well acquire a good maturity for themselves and a great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus" (1 Tim 3: 13).

To fulfill one's service is to exercise one's faith, to make it grow in experience and confidence.

- Encourage each other

"We have sent Timothy, our brother and fellow worker to the service of God in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen you and encourage you in your faith, so that no one will be shaken in these tribulations [...] praying night and day. very urgently so that we may see your face and make up for what is lacking in your faith" (1 Thessalonians 3, 2, 10).
