Your Father knows

Wednesday February 23, 2022

I know it, O Eternal ! The way of man is not in his power ; it is not for man, when he walks, to direct his steps. Jeremiah 10. 23

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path. Psalm 119. 105

Your Father knows

Throughout the night, several dozen people searched for Clement, an eight-year-old child, lost in the snowy mountain. At dawn, two helicopters were sent as reinforcements. Quickly, the pilots spotted traces of skiing. A ground crew followed in his footsteps which were extended by small footprints. These footprints led to a tree where, amid the thick foliage, the child was found safe and sound.

Over the radio, the chief in charge of the rescue announced : "Clement is in good shape. In fact, he is in better shape than us at the moment !" He then explained why the boy did so well despite the cold. His dad had explained to him what he should do if one day he got lost. Clement had done exactly what his dad had said. He had protected himself from the cold and the snow by climbing a tree to snuggle up in, sheltered from the branches.

Clement shows us what we must do as children of a loving and wise Heavenly Father : simply obey his commandments. He knows what is best for us today. "Your Father knows what you need" (Matthew 6:8). In a world full of snares and confused voices, it is our happiness and our security to trust in his unchanging love. The Bible affirms that it is impossible to direct one's life by oneself. It alone is a moral light to illuminate our path.
