"On the twenty-fourth day of the first month I was on the bank of the great river which is the Hiddekel ; And I lifted up my eyes, and saw ; And there was a man clothed with linen, and his loins were girded with gold from Uphaz ; And his body as a chrysolite, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as flames of fire, and his arms and feet as the appearance of polished brass, and the voice of his Words as the voice of a multitude." Daniel 10: 4-6

At the end of his fast, Daniel is on the banks of the Hiddekel River (probably the Tiger) with companions. On the 24th day of the first month of the year, a person clothed in glory appears to him in a vision. Daniel's description corresponds to that of the Son of man, the Lord Jesus, in the vision that the Apostle John received at Patmos (Rev. 1: 12-16). Like John, Daniel loses all his strength before the glorious appearance of the Lord of the universe and falls into a profound stupor. It collapses on the ground. His companions did not see the person who had appeared, yet they ran to hide. The prophet remains alone, face to face.

One hand then touches Daniel, shakes it, and puts it on his knees and the palms of his hands. In his extreme weakness, on four legs like an animal, the prophet hears : "Daniel, beloved man, understand the words I say to you, and stand upright in the place where you are ; For I am now sent to thee" (v. 11). At this word, Daniel finds the strength to stand up and stand on his feet. He is a beloved man ! What an encouragement from the Lord by his angel !

When we fall upon our face to better enter into the knowledge of divine thoughts, God is pleased to answer : "This I will look upon: to the afflicted, and to him that has a contrite spirit, and Tremble at my word" (Is 66: 2).

Daniel received the understanding he was looking for, he emerged from this ordeal with new strengths. He may be introduced into the prodigious revelation which the Lord has reserved for him (Dan 11 and 12).

"Do not rejoice over me, my enemy : if I fall, I will rise again ; If I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light" (Mich. 7: 8).
