A eyewash to anoint your eyes !
Revelation 3.18 - I advise you to buy from me gold tried by fire, that you may become rich, and white clothes, so that you may be clothed, and the shame of your nakedness does not appear, and a eyewash to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.
This advice was given in a letter to the Laodicean church. Don't you think this letter could have been addressed to the present Church ?
Today I would like to focus on "buy a eyewash to anoint our eyes so that we can see". I believe this passage is for each of us in particular. Perhaps you will answer me : "But I see very clearly". Yes, maybe physically you have good eyesight, but what about your spiritual sight today ? What do you see ?
The view we have of our state can sometimes be clouded, whether it is by the sin that envelops us so easily but also by our own righteousness (I don't need anything). Our vision can be distorted. We see things, but they are not really that way if we see them with God's gaze. So it is with our world, we see the work of the enemy and I think no one will contradict me on this, but the work of God, do we see it ? Are we talking about it ?
We can have a bad viewing angle. Our vision is focused on our situation, our problem, while the Lord would have us look up to Him where our help is coming from (Psalms 123.2).
Our vision can be narrow. I only see what is going on in my house, my community and everything looks good to me. But even today, if I asked God to widen my field of vision, what would I see ? The harvest is great, very great, and there are few workers. This could be my observation and could lead me to pray that workers are rising everywhere, right ?
Our vision can be completely cloudy compared to the times in which we live and as to the reality of spiritual things. We experience things in our communities, we come together, we read and meditate on the Word of God and we are free to be able to speak freely about our faith and to live it but elsewhere, not very far, at the gates of our countries, that is it ? Does my vision today allow me to see that tomorrow the persecution may be at my doorstep ?
I believe that many of us may find ourselves more or less in one of these definitions of vision. I don't know if you've ever observed someone getting eye drops in their eyes, but if so, you may have noticed that they must look up and especially look up ! On this day, let us raise our eyes and pray, "Lord, put eyewash on our eyes and give us to see !".
Good reflection.
