A God who judgess and who crying

"My heart is groaning over Moab... I will send to Dimon new woes." Isaiah 15. 5, 9 (NASB)

Chapters 13 to 23 of the book of Isaiah present ten oracles about the nations that surround Israel and the people of God Himself.

The two verses of the day are from the third oracle pronounced on Moab (Isaiah 15-16). After a striking description of the misfortunes of this people, the painting is interrupted. Who is he whose heart groans before so many misfortunes ? It is he who affirms, three verses after, that he will send new misfortunes, it is "the Lord of armies" himself ! The continuation of the oracle confirms that God manifests at the same time his just anger and the infinite sympathy of his heart : he who is compassionate is also the one who sometimes puts an end to joy (Isa 16, 9, 10). Our limited mind could see it as a contradiction ; but we affirm, supported on these verses as on many others, the coherence and the harmony of the divine characters.

God lets us discover our faith and what we learn from him encourages us :

- Compared to the misfortunes that overwhelm our world. How can a good God allow such horrors, do we hear ? First of all, these misfortunes are most often the direct or indirect consequence of the sin of man. But, in any case, our God is not content to allow them, nor to send them just retribution; he is also in sympathy with his suffering creature and wants to be found of her. The attitude of the Lord Jesus faced with the evils that surrounded him provides a demonstration.

- In relation to our own tests. The Christian is no longer under the judgment of God. The Bible says he is a blessed man. However, it is not exempt from hardship because it belongs to the suffering humanity. God can also sometimes act to train him or to draw his attention if he has moved away from him. But the one who makes the plague is also the one who bandages it (Job 5. 18). His active sympathy is assured in all circumstances.

- In relation to the education of our children. Like our perfect Father, we educate our children. And while it is sometimes necessary for their education to bear the consequences of their actions, we suffer for our children from their own suffering. Then we understand a little the heart of our God who moans when he must judge.
