Christian life without compromise

"Where your treasure is, there will be your heart too ... No one can serve two masters ; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or he will cleave to one and despise the other." Matthew 6. 21, 24

A compromise is an arrangement, one could say a bargain. Life in society requires compromise, as does family or couple life ... and that of the Church. A person who never compromises is unbearable because it never takes into account the opinions and desires of others.

But no compromise with evil or lies is acceptable in the life of the Church and the Christian ! The Bible says that it is from within the Church that false prophets will arise, wolves disguised as sheep, who will question the Word of God (Acts 20. 29, 30). Can we make arrangements with them, make compromises ? Passivity at this level would be guilty. She always serves the cause of our enemy.

Jesus spoke with authority, unlike the scribes (Matt 7:29). Why did he have authority ? Because his heart was without share before God. And those who knew it best are not the disciples, but demons and unclean spirits. "What do you want from us, Jesus, Son of God ? Have you come here before time to torment us ? "They asked" (Matt 8:29). That's why Jesus had so many enemies and we tried to kill him. And on the cross, he showed that his heart was entirely for God. This cross is the victory over all compromises !

Are we going to imitate our Lord, even at our small level ? We have a "jealous God". It is written (Exodus 20. 5). One could say a God who does not share the first place. This must make us think. Who is in the first place, in my heart ? To answer this question, we can ask some other, more simple, but relevant : Who am I trying to please above all ? Whom do I want to do the will ? Have I understood what he says to me, what he offers me, what he asks me, or is it still unclear ? Did one day say "yes" to Jesus Christ ? Am I his sheep ? Is he my shepherd ? He said : "My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27).
