David and Goliath
The Philistine went forth morning and evening, and he presented himself for forty days. 1 Samuel 17:16
David's famous battle with Goliath reminds us of our daily struggle against the spiritual powers of wickedness (Ephesians 6:12).
From a human perspective, the fight is unequal and to the advantage of Goliath. This champion of the enemy army, a giant whose armor is intricately detailed, scares away the bravest soldiers. This is the case with the army of Israel. But if Goliath rises against the people of God, he rises against God himself. And when we realize this, we understand that God will give the victory. However, you have to fight.
Goliath has all the best weaponry of its day. He comes at regular times: morning and evening for forty days. That's what the devil does today, as we plan our day. This moment of prayer and reading the Bible before leaving the house in the morning, he wants to steal it from us. The danger of starting the day without spending time with God is real. In the evening too, a fight is often necessary to make good use of the free time after meals. What will my eyes accept to see and my ears to listen to ? For each of us, at any age, the world system always has something to offer for our quiet moments, but with little benefit to the soul.
David who offers his services does not look like a warrior ; he's a shepherd. But the secret of his strength is in his trust in his God. With her help, David, the shepherd, was able to defend the sheep in his care. So he can declare : The Lord who delivered me from the claw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will also deliver me from the hand of this Philistine (1 Samuel 17:37). David knew how to use his slingshot. It is through it that God gives victory. The experience of the protection of the Lord equips us to overcome the enemy.
The devil always wants to steal our time. Let us be people of decision, let us give priority to our God and count on his help always at our disposal.
