"Do at all times by the Spirit all kinds of prayers and supplications, and watch this with complete perseverance." Ephesians 6.18
Recently, I was about to move. Concerned by all kinds of administrative and material procedures, I have been busy sorting, sorting, throwing, selling and packaging. While neglecting the usual housekeeping, I contented myself with a quick maintenance of the house. This negligence, which seemed to me innocuous, soon had some unpleasant repercussions.
We live in the country and the spiders quickly grabbed each corner where I did not pass, the ants immediately made incursions in the manger and insect pests quickly hatched in several rooms. Small white worms have appeared here and there ... Although the house does not look dirty, my rural neighbors were quick to spot all the little corners left unexplored and immediately seized.
Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. It is necessary to let him take care of your heart in every small corner.
You see what I mean ! The Bible urges us to watch daily the state of our soul, to persevere in prayer, to seek the presence of God. If you do just a quick and irregular dusting of your heart, you will not be able to prevent your enemy from grabbing the abandoned areas, where he knows you never go.
Going to church from time to time, doing an episodic prayer, thinking about God sometimes is not enough. You must give yourself completely to God and let Him explore the secret folds of your soul, obey His Word, bring to light what is dirty, purify your thoughts and clean your heart.
Because if you do not look after your soul, you will not just be dealing with spider webs or a few insects. The apostle Peter solemnly warns us : "Be sober, watch, your adversary, the devil, prowling like a roaring lion, seeking who he will devour." 1 Peter 5.8
It is a cruel adversary who wants to annihilate you and will not give you any gifts : he breaks homes and families, brings depression, pushes the unfortunate to suicide and leads many men and women to hell far from God…
The good news is that Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. It is necessary to let him take care of your heart in every small corner.
A prayer for today
Today, I ask you to clean up my thoughts, my desires and my wounds. Fill me with your presence, entirely. I commit myself to seek you every day, to persevere in this communion, to watch while reading your Word and while praying to you.
