Encounters with Jesus : Peter

When he saw this, Simon Peter fell on Jesus' knees and said : Lord, depart from me, because I am a sinful man. Luke 5.8

What an unforgettable morning ! After a fruitless night of fishing, Peter and his colleagues are cleaning their nets to be ready for their next outing on the lake. Then they were probably going to go to sleep. But when Jesus tells them to go back to the deep water and cast their nets again, they go, despite Peter's doubts. Result : such a catch of fish that the two boats risk sinking !

Are you surprised by Peter reaction to this miraculous catch ? Why did he not invite Jesus to join his team of fishermen? What a wonderful partner, with such knowledge of the lake and the fish ! But instead of enlisting Jesus in his team, he asks him to go away. He is afraid, his companions too. Who could do what Jesus just did if not God himself ? And Peter, aware of his state of sinner, knows that sin cannot subsist in the presence of God...

But Jesus does not want to go away. On the contrary, he wants to take Peter by his side and make him a fisher of men. So don't think that you have to “clean up” your life before you come to Jesus. Come to him as you are, he will transform you !
