Enemies of God

Unbelievers are not God's friends. Too often we put ourselves on the side of sinners as if we would try to convince God that they are not so bad as that. But they are enemies of God, and we must be clear about this. To misunderstand this fact will make us lose our strength in our proclamation of the Gospel. We need to know the functioning of the human heart to be able to bring it the solution, and we need to know the disease of the human heart to be able to bring him the salutary healing.

"While we were his enemies, God reconciled us to him by the death of his Son ; even more so, now that we are reconciled, will we be saved by his life" (Romans 5:10).

This verse states that we were, before our new birth, enemies of God. Do we understand that an unbeliever is an enemy of God ? Do we accept this truth ? We must not forget that Jesus died because of our sins and sins. It was only after our repentance and our encounter with God that we were reconciled with him. This reconciliation has made us his friends. After the anger, we now have peace with him.

Paul will confirm this truth many times : "And ye who were formerly strangers and enemies of God by your evil thoughts and deeds, he has now reconciled to you" (Colossians 1:21). The enemies of God and his Gospel are numerous. They are mockers who do not hesitate to slander the name of Jesus and his work among believers. Their hearts are filled with hatred for God. God will shut their mouths unless they open their hearts to him.

Jesus was surrounded by these enemies of God, which is why a whole crowd among these enemies shouted to Pilate : "Crucify him, crucify him !" (Luke 23:21), and asked that a murderer be released to them.
