"He who had received only one talent then came near, and he said : Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, who reap where you did not sow, and who harvests where you did not I was afraid, and went to hide your talent in the earth, behold, take what is yours, and his lord answered him, Wicked and lazy servant." Matthew 25: 24-26.
Imagine that in your hands there is a seed that you need to take care of. It is an oak in the making but for the moment it is only an acorn that fits in your palm. The only problem is that you are not sure that one day this seed will become a majestic tree.
Be actors of change, and see the Lord act.
In the face of bad weather, mistreatment of life, deforestation, droughts, fire risks, etc ... nothing guarantees you success. So you leave the seed in a drawer.
This seed is your talent buried in you. As the tree is in the seed, your potential is in you. Unfortunately, many give up on giving their gift on the pretext that maybe they will not do it. Faced with the difficulties of life, hard knocks, sticks in the wheels, jealousies, work to provide ... many prefer to do nothing and behave like victims instead of being agents of change.
During the winter of 2001, in February, I preached my first message entitled "The dream of God". In introduction I shared the famous speech of Pastor Martin Luther King : "I have a dream". Preaching was a buried dream. I was not the greatest, the most intelligent, nor even the most spiritual, but I carried that hope, that dream, that seed deep in my heart.
I was not sure that it works but I want to see the Lord act ... Yet I was afraid. The questions jostled in me : Will I be up to the task ? And if people are not affected ? What if my teacher finds me nil ? What if I stutter ? For more than a month I thought only of that. By eating, in my shower, in my dreams.
Then, the day "J" arrived. It was the beginning of something major in my life. Although it was only the first time and many things had to be improved, but I had dared to start, I had taken the risk of living my dream.
A question for today
What about you ? As you read these lines, are you growing your gift or is it hidden deep inside you, wrapped up in dozens of excuses ?
