Let me ask you a question : why was Jesus raised to the right hand of God ? Even in the biggest comments, very little is written about it. The ascension of Jesus Christ seems to be a neglected subject. Does it matter so little ? Jesus said of his ascension that it was necessary (John 16:7). He said that if he did not go up to the Father, we would never experience something vital. Without the ascension of the Lord, we could never be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Look at everything Jesus did. John writes that his works were so numerous that if all were to be written, the whole world would not contain them. So, what is the thing he did not accomplish while he was on the earth ? There is one.
This is exactly what John the Baptist announced he would do, baptize of fire and the Holy Spirit. He did not do it during his stay on earth. Jesus came from heaven and was to return, by means of the cross and the tomb, before the final phase of his mission could begin.
Nothing Jesus did on earth can be described as a baptism of the Holy Spirit and of fire.
In none of his mighty works : preaching, teaching, healing, or in his death and resurrection, did he baptize with the Holy Spirit. Jesus did many things for his disciples. He gave them the authority to carry out healing missions, but he left them without baptizing them in the Holy Spirit.
