"Paul said to them, Having beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, they cast us into prison, and now they thrust us out secretly ! It will not be so "(Acts 16. 35.40).

 

Paul and Silas were unjustly accused of being troublemakers, they were then beaten and thrown into prison (Acts 16.19 / 24). They are allowed to rob and brutalize without saying anything. However, the next morning, when the judges wanted them out secretly, they claimed their rights.
Perhaps the title of this thought of the day you have a problem. Perhaps you thought that forgiving is to renounce its rights.
This text of Scripture sheds light on this point, he tells us that forgiveness is not the resignation of his rights. Paul and Silas argued their rights of Roman citizens. Does this mean that they have not forgiven the magistrates ? Certainly they have forgiven, but they were also keen to assert their rights.

In this particular circumstance, forgiveness was not the economy that need to assert his rights. They did not in the reaction, at the time of their arrest, but they did it at the right time. To assert its rights in the reaction may aggravate a tense situation, while asserting its rights when the situation has calmed down will accentuate the dimension of forgiveness. Their rights have been recognized, the Apostles will then, in a spirit of appeasement, grant the request of the magistrates : they will quietly leave town.

Many believers think that forgiving is routinely waive their rights. There are situations where forgiveness, although granted, should not make the economy to end the injustice. Some battered women, for example, forgive and forgive continually abusive husband, and do not think to stop this violence claiming their right and by filing a complaint if necessary. Their silence will not help this man to become aware of his problem. Their pardon constantly without their right to be established, will not provide a definitive answer to this dramatic situation. If a child is abused, not to assert its right to justice is to be guilty of complicity with those who abuse it.

A tip for today :

Forgiveness does not require you to give up what is right. To the extent that you can establish your rights, do it. Forgive, and to assert its right, are two complementary aspects. Forgiveness will be more profound that your rights have been recognized.
