"Just the disciple to be like his teacher." Matthew 10. 25
How can a disciple be like his teacher ? How like him? Looking for a few characters of a good disciple browsing the Gospel of John.
- "His disciples believed in him" (John 2. 11). They are convinced that the miracle that Jesus has just performed at Cana is the work of God. The first thing is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, to believe his words and works.
- "Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, If ye continue in my word, you are truly my disciples" (8. 31). The disciple listens and follows the teachings of his master. He discovered every day with perseverance the truth contained in the Word of God and appropriates. This attitude frees the power of the devil, the influence of the world and the requirements of sin. It gives the ability to freely make choices for the sake of the one we used.
- "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another" (13. 35). It is sometimes difficult to support the other. They are so different from me! That is why this commandment to the disciples is so important : "As I have loved you, you also love one another you." Living in the vicinity of the Master allows us to love like him. To love is to give oneself to serve his brothers and seek their good.
- "Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit ; and you will be my disciples "(15. 8). The fruit is not necessarily an action, but it is the person of Christ for the believer. It follows an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus, that is to say, "... Christ formed" in the disciple (Gal. 4. 19).
- "Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate for permission to remove the body of Jesus ; and Pilate gave him. So he came and took the body of Jesus "(John 19. 38). The cross transforms the timid brave men. By living each day listening to the Master, we have the courage to openly affirm our faith to his delight !
