"Let us pursue this contributes to peace and to mutual edification" (Romans 14:19).

 

In this wonderful chapter on tolerance, the apostle Paul tells us a path to follow to live in peace among members of a Christian community but also beyond the boundaries of a chapel. This is the path of mutual respect, it is the way of the acceptance of differences, this is the way of love is greater than our particular beliefs.

Did you know that the Christmas crib is rooted in the Catholic tradition and the Christmas tree has its roots in the Protestant culture ? Protestants refusing any image of God, any representation of saints, refused the crib, which is made with images of Mary, Joseph, Jesus ... They replaced the crib by a Christmas tree, which was free from image !
Today tree nursery and coexist in communities ! But it is essential that ? Should we go to war for such approaches ? The key is it not to remember every day that we live, Jesus came to our land to reconcile us to God first and also with others ?

While an argument broke out in the church of Rome about forbidden foods or permitted, the apostle asks believers not to reject each other, but to demonstrate tolerance towards each other, in reminding them that the Kingdom of God is not a matter of food or drink, but a matter of justice, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17).

Did you leave a community because there was no Christmas tree or there was one ? You then forget the essential was not there; Essentially, it is the love of others. Tolerance is an open door to peace. Intolerance is a boulevard where hatred is engulfed, fear, rejection. Tolerance builds bridges, intolerance erects walls. Tolerance strengthens the bonds of friendship, intolerance divides friends.

If you like peace, if you want to be a peacemaker, you need to learn the need for tolerance. If you do your personal beliefs prior to accept others, you will end up rejecting others. The divisions within the churches born of the inability to develop more than vis-à-vis aspects of tolerance that do not affect the essence of faith in Christ.

My prayer on this day :

Lord, I beg you to open my heart and mind that I grow in the ability to accept others in their differences. Amen !
