"Nothing will be impossible with God." Luke 1. 37

 
One of the attributes of God is "omnipotence". This word means that God can do anything, that his power is limitless. Is it really God, that is to say, sovereign and infinite, he had no power over all things? One of the names of God is also the "Almighty" (Gen. 17. 1). Job, having glimpsed the greatness of God's power in creation, says : "I know you can all" (Job 42 2).
Yet the angel announced to Mary that she will give birth to Jesus, employs a curious expression : "Nothing will be impossible with God." This term future plot : God is unchanging in his omnipotence as in his other attributes and, historically, nothing should be impossible to him.
We must move forward in the Gospel to find some explanations: one evening, after a special meal with his disciples, Jesus, whose coming was to make everything possible, went into a garden. There, "he threw himself against the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour pass from him. He said, Abba, Father, for you all things are possible; take away this cup from me; However, not what I want, me, but what you want, you ! "(Mark 14. 35, 36). Imperfect "praying" and "said" make us feel the intensity of the prayer; she expressed that everything is possible with God and at the same time it evoked an impossibility. One last time, Jesus spoke to his Father : "My Father, if it is not possible that this pass from me unless I drink it, thy will be done" (Matthew 26. 42.). It was impossible to avoid the Lord God of abandoning the cross, symbolized by the "cup" of suffering. Our Lord rose from prayer and obedience to God's will, went to the sacrifice.
The work of our complete redemption, Jesus was resurrected by God. Indeed, there was another impossibility : it is retained by this death that had just defeated (. Act 2. 24) ; as his God resurrects it with power and gives it power.
Now everything is possible with God: even save those who seem farthest from the kingdom of God (Mark 10: 24-27), even take away even the memory of the sins of those who believe (cf. Heb 10. 4, 17.. ) even give the believer a power of divine origin (Mark 9. 23; 17. Matt 20).. Then, without waiting, "give glory" to the one who made everything possible. (Rev. 5. 12) !
