"God gives a family to those who are abandoned" (Psalm 68: 7).

 

At the beginning of the eighteenth century a young orphan left his miserable province in the north of England and came to London to look for work. Arrived at the end of the day in this great capital, he found a fairly spacious porch where he decided to spend the night. In the early morning, a passer-by saw this boy sleeping deeply with his head resting on a book. This attracted the gentleman's curiosity, and seeing that the young man was beginning to wake up, he approached him and asked him where he came from, and why he was sleeping in the street. The boy told him that he was an orphan, that he was coming to London to look for work, and even pointed out that the book which served him as a pillow was a Bible, bequeathed by his mother, and which he all read days.

The man wanted to test the boy's attachment to his Bible and offered him the equivalent of ten euros if he sold him his Bible. Although he was in great destitution, the boy refused. The man insisted on offering him more and more sums, up to a hundred euros, but the young man still refused.
Seeing to what extent this young man was attached to his Bible, this man offered to engage him in his undertaking. A few months later, this man without descendants, took the steps to adopt this orphan.
His attachment to his Bible permitted this orphaned young man to find a father of adoption who provided for all his needs and bequeathed to him at the end of his life all his possessions.
This testimony reminds us that our love for the Word of God can have miraculous effects. In this circumstance, God watched over his promise made in Psalm 68, and cited above.

Of course, we also know that because of their attachment to the Word of God, many believers have experienced persecution, imprisonment and even death, yet nothing has diminished their love for the Bible.
Neither the money offered nor the blows or the jail prevented thousands of believers from remaining attached to the Word of God. They are of those to whom Jesus will say : "Because you have kept my Word ... I have set before you an open door, which no one can close" (Revelation 3: 8).

A question for this day :

What is your attachment to the Word of God ? Will you be of those to whom Jesus will say, "Because you have kept my Word ... I have put before you an open door that no one can close" ? If you want to be one of these, tell the Lord : "Yes, Lord, I love your Word, and I press it to my heart."
