"A child is born to us, a son has been given to us, and the government will be on his shoulder ; And will call his name : Wonderful, Counselor, Strong God, Father of the Century, Prince of Peace. To the growth of his empire, and to peace, there will be no end, on the throne of David and in his kingdom, to establish and sustain him in judgment and justice, now and forever . "Isaiah 9: 6, 7
Centuries after Isaiah's prophecy (verse of the day), an angel announces to Mary, a virgin of Israel, the coming of the Messiah in terms similar to those of the prophet : "Thou shalt bear a son, and thou shalt call him Name of Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High ; The Lord God will give him the throne of David his father ; He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and there shall be no end to his kingdom "(Luke 1: 31-33).
Jesus is not born in the palace of a king ; His first dwelling is a stable. But God can not pass over in silence the coming of His Son in this world. An angel announces his birth to humble shepherds and the chorus of angels vibrates the sky of the fields of Bethlehem : "Glory to God in the highest places ; And on earth, peace ; And good pleasure in men "(Luke 2:14).
Years later, a crowd pressed to the Jordan to be baptized by John ; Jesus is there in the crowd. There, too, God can not let the presence of his Son among sinners pass in silence. The heavens crack, the Holy Spirit descends, and a voice is heard : "This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my pleasure" (Matthew 3:17).
On the Mount of Transfiguration, Peter sees Jesus speaking with Moses and Elijah. Without thinking, he proposes to set up three tents. Even though he wanted to offer the first tent to Jesus, Peter put him in the ranks of two great prophets. But whatever may be the greatness of Moses or Elijah, the Father can not pass over the pre-eminence of his Son : "This is my beloved Son, listen to him" (Luke 9:35).
Never on earth did Jesus, the humble Man, cease to be the Son of God. His humility is part of his greatness and glory. Let us give him the honor due to him !
