"He who listens to me with confidence, it shall be quiet without fear of evil" (Proverbs 1.33).

 

Listening to the Word is the means by which God gives us rest, assurance, tranquility.
In the nineteenth century, an American banker, owned by an atheist club, crossed to horse the state of Kentucky ; he was carrying a thousand dollars. Crossing a forest, he lost his way, and was afraid to fall on a band of bandits hiding in these parts. He saw a miserable hut ; he knocked on the door to ask hospitality, and a woman came to the door, saying that her husband was not going to arrive soon, since it was night and therefore could not see to drive. Indeed, shortly after the master of this place arrived, wearing a deerskin jacket and wearing a hat trimmed in a bear skin. His appearance worried the passing host.
After modest meal, the woodsman offered his guest to go to rest, if he wished. The latter replied that he would spend the night near the fire if they had no problem. The more man insisted that the traveler rests, it became more worried. He feared for his life, he wanted to stay awake and able to use his colt, if necessary.
Finally, the master of the rose, took an old book on a shelf and said, "If you do not want to get rest, know that I am eager to go to bed, but I never do without read a chapter from the Bible. "

As this man was reading the Bible, the passage banker began to reassure himself. He realized he was in the house of a man who feared God.
After addressing a prayer to God at the end of his reading, the man withdrew and went to rest with his wife.
After a moment, reassured by reading that had been made, the banker slept peacefully.
In the morning, guests indiquèrent his way and could finish his trip without problems.
From that day, the banker also decided to read the Bible. He abandoned his atheist club and eventually became a disciple of the Lord.
Often in his testimony, he described how reading the Bible had calmed his restless soul.
