"Some false brothers had introduced us to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus, intending to enslave us" (Galatians 2.4).

 

In Galatians, Paul brings us to a deep reflection on the theme of freedom. It focuses in particular on slavery to which we can lead the ordinances of the law.
Some believers in returning to practice many aspects of the law after experiencing salvation by faith.
This whole epistle is a plea for freedom against religious legalism. The religious legalism is a permanent danger. In Galatians 5.1 Paul urges us not to let us put again under the yoke of bondage. It is for freedom that Christ set us free.

The law says, "If you do or do not do this or that, or you will not get." Faith says, "think and get." The law makes me the son of the slave woman, faith makes me the son of the free woman (Galatians 4.21 / 3).
The religious legalism locks us into shapes, appearances, rituals, laws that "have an appearance of wisdom in that they indicate will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body, and it is worthless actual and serves only the flesh" Colossians 2.23.

Is the church where believers enter into the freedom that Christ offers us ? Or is indeed the place where each formatted to be legalistic. Legalism can lead believers to give an external image consistent with pre-defined standards, but what about their faith in Christ alive ? Legalism makes self-sufficient, arrogant, conceited, he leads those that feed to judge others on looks.

Believers who monitor and spy on the freedom in which some live in relation to laws and ordinances, are here called "false brothers" ! Our role is not to monitor or spy on the freedom of others, but it is to enter the freedom to which Christ calls us. Our responsibility is not to control the freedom of others, but to make ourselves good use of the freedom we have in Christ.
This is because the apostle Peter and Barnabas knew monitored, watched, they restricted their freedom to continue eating with Gentiles (Galatians 2.11 / 13).

My prayer on this day :

Lord, I do not want to be, or a controller of the freedom of others nor a fearful that lets restrict the freedom I have in you. Help me to discover the dimension of freedom that you offer me. Amen !
