God takes care of you

"And when they had cast the net, they took a great number of fish, and their net was broken, and beckoned to their companions in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled the two boats, When he saw this, Simon Peter fell on his knees and said : Lord, withdraw from me, because I am a sinful man." Luke 5.6-8

Obedience to Jesus results in a miracle. In spite of the night spent fishing without taking anything, at the order of Jesus, in the same lake, the fishing becomes miraculous.

Jesus is not only the God of salvation but he is also the God of everyday life.

When Jesus becomes the master of our boat then what seemed fruitless becomes fruitful. It is the same lake, the same boat, the same fishermen, the same net and yet everything changes. What is the plus or minus element that caused this ? Obedience to the Master's Word.

Simon had to be challenged by the fact that Jesus took care of his daily needs. The reputation of Jesus was established on the fact that he healed the sick, delivered the captives. But this passage is the first in the Gospel of Luke where we find an intervention of Jesus in regard to the professional and material domain. The Lord does not only want to forgive you, deliver you and heal you but he also wants to meet your everyday needs.

Imagine with me the scene at the moment when the boats return from the fishing, full on the edge. The crowd had to exclaim in astonishment. Can you hear the clamor of these men and women ?

I am always amazed when I hear testimonials of what God does in everyday lives.

Jesus is not only the God of salvation but he is also the God of everyday life. Learn to pray as He taught in His Word : "Give us today our bread of this day" (Matthew 6:11).

A prayer for today

Lord, I come before you and ask you to take care of my daily needs. As you taught me, I pray : "Give me today my daily bread". Amen.
