I offer you my heart !

Psalm 51.19 - O God, the sacrifice that I offer you is myself, with my broken pride. O God, do not refuse my completely broken heart (BFC).

Is there a need to come back to the fault that brought David into this state of contrition ? After the intervention of Nathan the prophet, David became strongly aware of his fall on which he had been blinded until then and his sin was constantly before his eyes (Psalm 51.3). Self-esteem takes a hell of a beating when we are confronted with our actions screened in the light of God.

Yet David is not going to hide before the face of God and he will "face him". He knows the mercy of his God well enough to lay bare before Him. He is full of hope as to the forgiveness and purification that He will grant him. And he will do what the Lord expects of each of us: he will offer himself as a sacrifice !

For us Christians, even though we are no longer under the old covenant and have access to the grace that is in Jesus Christ, we still too often forget this. We are ready to sacrifice things, but putting our lives on the altar is much more difficult. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a complete break before we are ready to do this. Yet this is where God is waiting for us, didn't Jesus say : “If the grain of wheat that fell into the earth does not die, it remains alone ; but if he dies he bears much fruit" (John 12:24). To offer oneself on the altar is to accept to die to oneself in order to be resurrected in Christ.

Beloved, you may be in the depths of dismay, your heart is broken and your "pride" is shattered, no longer finding an ounce of confidence in yourself. Offer yourself to God, it is the sacrifice He expects to make of you a man full of His compassion and His mercy. You are the grain that will bear much fruit. No it is not over, yes you have a future in Him and as someone said : "A failure understood is a new springboard to success".
